An iconic Byron Bay celebration, brimming with joy and rich with modern styling. We fell in love with Megan & Joe’s beautiful wedding the moment we saw it. Wed at the Orchard Estate wearing the incredible Georgia Young Couture and inimitably captured by Bayleigh Vedelago, what’s not to love about this divine summer soiree.
The Love Story | Joe and I met working together in Melbourne. He was a client of mine. Very soon after we met, I moved to Sydney so he had to make the decision to follow me up.
The Proposal | Joe and I moved to NYC 2 years ago after being together for 4 years. During our first Christmas there, we had friends staying with us and were meeting all our Aussie-expat family for Lunch. We were taking our puppy Alfie for a walk in Washington Squad Park, it was freezing and early in the morning. There were a few tourists around and Joe suggested we get a photo together to commemorate our first Christmas – v odd for a non-photo guy! As we went to take the photo he popped a knee instead and asked me to marry him in the centre of the park. We then had the best day celebrating with all our friends and facetiming our big families back in Australia.
I had visited many boutiques in NYC but nothing was quite right. I had a surprise trip coming up to visit my family and friends in March before the wedding so I booked a few appointments in to take my bridesmaids and mum to. When I went to Georgia Young I picked out 5-6 dresses. The best part about Georgia is her range of options, although they all cohesively fit in a collection, the styles and body types they fit are far ranging so I could really get a feel for what I liked. Once I had tried all the dresses I picked on I was getting dressed and Georgia asked if she could pick one out for me that she thought would be a great fit. Well, of course Georgia is great at her job and she nailed it, it was the perfect dress and got the perfect reaction (tears) from my bridesmaids when I stepped out of the change room.
Leading up to the wedding, I was always keen to get the ceremony over quickly to relax. On reflection, standing in front of all our nearest and dearest, in the boiling hot Australian sun in the orchard was truly magical to us was such a special time. Looking at Joe and then out to all the people we love who support us was surreal.
Words of Wisdom | Everyone is right – it goes so quick! Try and find moments in the day plan where you can carve out to relax or step away with your new hubby.
We set up a Welcome Party the day before as all of our guests were travelling. In hindsight this was more beneficial than I ever thought because the next day, everyone already knew each other so it made it like a one big group celebration. The other benefit was that we were able to see everyone the day before so did not feel the pressure to ‘make the rounds’ at the wedding – it was much more relaxed.
